the best in my area

William James was a northamerican phisician and philosopher who lived between the middle of the 19th century and the beginning of the last century. His work was very important for our disipline and, even today, some of his theories are matter of discussion and references for the psychologists.

In psychology he started a way of thought about psychological phenomena called functionalism and in the field of philosophy he was a pragmatic philosopher who wrote several works about this subject.

He wrote a theory about emotions, called today James-Lange theory of emotion which basically suggests that before the experience of any emotion arises the phisiological pattern of activation in the nervous system.

I think that maybe the theories of James are not right, but the importance of this man is that he has set several importants topics for psychology. In this sense, we can say that James is a classic thinker in our science.

This is Pont du Gard in the south of france, it is a bridge built by romans. In fact, it is an aqueduct with 49 mt of height that was built on the first century of the christian age. It is an amazing construction over the Gard river and it was created by romans to bring water from the water sources of the river in Uzes to the city of Nimes (former, Nemausus) that is around 50 km from the sources. In 1985, Unesco declared it as human cultural heritage and on its history has been damaged and repaired several times. It is a very touristic place and most of time is plenty of people. There is also a museum and a lot of rstaurants. I went there exactly one year ago with two friends and now I felt the need to remember this beautyful experience.

my ideal job

My ideal job would be to work in a psychology of learning laboratory in any part of the world, even if it was on Siberia, I wouldn't care. The thing that really matters to me is research on learning processess in human beings and specially on the cultural determinants and conditions that influence learning among people.
I don't know if I have the best qualities required to be a proper researcher but I think that I have a powerful motivation so, even if I am not a genius, at least I have an important capacity to hardwork. The skills can be learned, so I hope to acquire the necessary abilities to perform a good work and the rest will depend on my own capacities for learning.
I believe that every person who works on a job that he or she loves, will be good at it and will succeed in life. I'm not thinking about success in the sense of getting a lot of money and material things but I'm thinking on success as a personal developement. In this way I think that I will be good in my job.
In Chile, research is not such a developed subject as it is in other countries, so I think it will be a little bit difficult to find the job that I wish, but if I can't find the job here maybe I will find it in another place.

my career

I love psychology and I hope to finish my studies quickly because I want to start working on psychology of learning and cognitive sciences. I wish to work on research, but also I think it will be nice to work on applicated psychology, specially if it is useful for other persons.
If anyone ask what psychology is or deals about, I think it will be a little bit difficult to give him a proper or definitive answer, because it deals with several aspects that we call mind or mental processes and from different theories and points of view. I think that it will be right to say that psychology is the scientific inquiry of the mind and the behavior, but this could be just a part of the truth, because minds are embodied in a bodies and are related to an environments and different contexts.
Even if it is not easy to describe and define psychology, I think that is a very interesting discipline and it will be better in the near future. At least this is what I hope.

my favorite subject

My favorite subject is neuroscience, because I think it is very interesting to know how our brain works. Nevertheless, I have too admit that it is quite difficult to understand and learn all the things related to brain functioning, because it has to deal with the biochemistry, anatomy, chemical and electric signaling between millions of cells called neurons.
I haven't take the subject yet, because I'm still in the first year in the university and neuroscience is a lecture of second year.
The teacher is Ronald Betancourt.
As I have said before, I like too much learn and know how the brain works and produces thoughts. The most important contribution of this science (besides medicine, biology and other scientific fields) is to bring philosophical and psychological problems into an scientific inquiry. Specifically, I mean that neuroscience is a real chance to know what is happening inside the brain whenever a person thinks, feels, have subjective experiences of the reality and others things and this is very important for us as psychologists.
I didn't learnt yet too much about neuroscience because I didn't take the subject yet, but I hope to learn as most as I can in the next year if God wills.

my future
I hope that in 5 years I will be about to finish my studies, maybe working on some research project of psychology of learning.
My professional expectation for that time is to get a good job in a psychological lab. Also I would like to be working on an institution, but without leaving investigation, and I don't want to work on applied psychology at all.
My personal expectations for the future are not so interesting, I think that I will be married, to have children and living a quite normal life. I will do my best to avoid the boring life that many people get after marriage. On the opposite, I hope to continue doing sports, travelling and enjoying life without being a bored, fat housband and careless father.
I don't know where I will be living on that time, but I hope to live in Chile, maybe in an small city of the south, investigating something related to the learning processes, I think that this kind of life will be quite enough for me.
The ideal future will be to get an scholarship to make a PhD in a good university that allow me to work exclusively on research and to spend the rest of my life investigating the things that motivates my intersest and, on this way, to benefit my society.
